The Gift that Keeps on Giving: Merge Announces 14 Volume Box Set Subscription for Anniversary

Not to be confused with the Spacelab headline from a few weeks ago in which we said Score! about Yo La Tengo's They Shoot, We Score compilation, Merge Records is issuing a 20th anniversary boxed set of Merge artists titled SCORE! Merge Records: The First 20 Years to celebrate the label's 20th anniversary. Maybe we were just channeling the future through the collective unconscious, maybe we were just lucky. Personally, I prefer the former, but it's probably the latter. But who cares, it's a new box set from Merge! Score!

This will be a large edition, with 14 volumes of Merge goodness and history. They've asked a lot of people to curate, including curators of the first volumes will be Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Phil Morrison (Junebug, The Upright Citizens Brigade) . Future curators include David Byrne, Amy Poehler, Jonathan Lethem, Marcel Dzama, David Chang and more.

Preorders start on September 8th, and it's a subscription delivery in which Merge will continually deliver new issues throughout the anniversary year, which is 2009. All Score! proceeds go to the charity of choice for the curator of that issue.
